Where to buy locally grown flowers in Dallas

You can buy flowers grown by Paper Bird Flower Farm in Farmersville, Texas, at our self-serve farm stand on Sundays, at Central Market stores across DFW, at Saturday farmers markets, and through the Paper Bird Bouquet Club. Here's where to find us, plus how to tell whether any bouquet is actually local.

Where to find Paper Bird flowers

  • Farm stand: 5003 County Road 644, Farmersville. Sundays, 11am to dusk. Self-serve, right at the farm.

  • Central Market: Lovers Lane, Preston Royal, Midway, Plano, Southlake, and Fort Worth, through mid-November. Including our marigolds and Zinnias in season.

  • Denton Community Market: Saturdays, 9am to 1pm.

  • Rockwall Farmers Market: Saturdays, 8am to noon, May through September. Our home market for seven seasons.

How to tell if flowers are really local

Most people assume flowers sold near them were grown near them. Most of the time, they weren't. Most cut flowers sold in the US are flown in from other countries, and even US-grown flowers usually travel a long way to get to Dallas. A few ways to tell:

  • Ask where they were grown. A local grower can tell you the town and the farm.

  • Look at what's in it. Local flowers have seasons. Tulips in spring, zinnias and marigolds in the summer heat. If a flower is available every single week of the year, it's probably imported. No, your red roses are not local!

  • Look for the farm's name. Our grocery bunches carry the Paper Bird name, so you know exactly where they came from.

  • Check how long they last. Flowers cut fresh and driven an hour last longer than flowers that spent days in a box. Ours typically last 7 to 14 days in a vase, depending on the variety.

Sometimes someone at the market asks if we picked our flowers on the side of the road. We used to get a little offended. Now we chuckle and tell them the truth: we grew them 🤣

Why local flowers are worth it

Local flowers follow the seasons, so your bouquet in March looks nothing like your bouquet in August. They're grown not flown, cut fresh, and driven a short distance instead of shipped. And every bunch keeps a small farm like ours growing.

If you want local flowers without having to remember to go get them, the Bouquet Club puts one farmer's-choice bouquet on your calendar each month, ready at a small business near you.

Love, Jenna
