The Hardest We’ve Ever Worked, and We Farm for a Living

One recent Election Day was maybe the hardest we’ve worked in a single day in years. And we farm for a living.

Jenna served as a presiding election judge, which sounds official and calm but was actually pretty wild. It was fifteen hours of problem-solving on your feet, talking to hundreds of strangers, making quick calls, keeping things moving, and caring a lot about getting it right. By the time the last ballot was counted, she could barely form sentences. All that said, she felt great, albeit exhausted, at the end of the day.

Here’s what she kept thinking about on the drive home: this feeling isn’t new. Not the specific exhaustion, but the why underneath it.

The reason we love farmers market days is the same reason Jenna signed up to be an election judge. We want to be people who show up for the place we live. We want to know the people who get to experience our flowers. We want to be part of the infrastructure of the community, not just a business operating inside it.

Farmers markets, flower farming, election day. They’re all just different expressions of the same thing: showing up, being present, doing the unglamorous work that makes ordinary life a little more worth living.

Some seasons call for a lot of showing up all at once. Spring Flower Club pickups begin, a new market debut, maybe a giveaway winding down. Honestly? It’s going to be another long stretch. But the good kind.

Thank you for showing up with us.
